Handheld EmailEnterprise Delivery POP/IMAP Delivery Lotus Notes Enterprise Email DeliveryEnterprise Delivery of Lotus Notes entails delivering more than just mail to a handheld. Calender and Contacts are also delivered to the device. A third party server (BES or Good) is used to push changes to a mailfile out to a device. Blackberry Enterprise Server Blackberries use the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) for email delivery. CSN maintains the BES for the University System. Licenses for the BES can be obtained through Telecommunications. Licensing costs for the BES are as follows:
Blackberries serviced through Telecommunications can have these fees added to their Telecom bill. Blackberries that are owned by the customer and paid for directly through the cellular provider will need to have an account created at Telecom to pay for the license and monthly maintenance. Telecom Technical services can set up your device on site and give basic device training for the $25 Tech Setup fee. Good Mobile Messaging Non-Blackberry Smart Phones can use the Good Mobile Messaging server to deliver the Lotus Environment. This includes devices such as:
Licensing costs for the Good Mobile Messaging solution are as follows:
*Secure Transport Service License (STS): The STS license is $240 annually when purchased by itself. To avoid this cost most providers sell a Goodlink Data Plan for their smartphones that includes the cost of this license in the monthly Data Plan costs. Most providers sell their Goodlink Data Plans at around $40 per month. Telecommunications will NOT set up an account on the Good Server for a device that does not have a Goodlink Data Plan. Smartphones serviced through Telecommunications can have these fees added to their Telecom bill. Smartphones owned by the customer and paid for directly through the provider will need to have and account created at Telecom to pay the license fee and monthly maintenance. Telecom will also verify that the customer has the correct data plan from their provider before allowing the account to be created on the Good server. Lotus Notes POP/IMAP Mail DeliveryIn some cases Enterprise Delivery of Lotus Notes can be too expensive or the user does not want anything more than their mail. POP/IMAP connections from the phone to the Domino servers can be used in these cases. Most Smartphones have built in POP/IMAP clients. No licensing is needed for this type of connection. These connection solutions are more limited in their functionality. POP connections will deliver mail but will not show a users folder structure from Lotus Notes. IMAP connections will show the Lotus Folder structure. Telecommunications can aid in setting up this connection for a user for the $25 setup fee. Due to the large amount and variety of POP/IMAP client software available for Smartphones, Telecommunications Technical support cannot provide free technical support to users on these connection types. If the phone is serviced through Telecommunications and it is determined that connection issues are due to provider error, tech support will be provided at no charge. If the phone is not serviced through Telecom or the problem is due to user configuration errors, the $25 Technical Support will be charged on a per event basis.
